the game of love

touch down. home run. field goal. no matter how you word it, winning feels good. it's amazing to be able to capture the essence of winning in a photograph. matt and camilla are dear friends of mine and i am thrilled to share their win with you. a nudge, a giggle, a kiss all standard plays in the game of love. i can't wait to capture more.

serenity

at some point in my life, i want to be able to stop what i'm doing, look around, and just breathe. at this shoot i got a glimpse of what that feels like. rolling hills, fields of green and yellow for miles, a slight breeze, and a beautiful kansas sunset. you can't get much better than that. (unless you're in nebraska!) it seems as though so many of my references about my photography pertain to life as well. i aspire to be happy, prospering and confident in my choices...all three ideals can be used to describe my life and my photography. if serenity is a goal on my journey, i might as well capture life on the way.

the little things

this series of photos is inspired by detail. attention to detail should never be underestimated although it often is. in these photos its the light catching every follicle of fuzz on a dandelion, or the individual grains of sand on a leaf, or even the scatter of pollen on bright pink petals. in other photos i have taken, its the sparkle of a sequin on a homecoming dress, glistening silver of a favorite necklace, or even the tips of newborn toes. its all of the little things that may have the biggest impact on our lives, but do we make an effort to notice?

experience

everything gets better with experience, right? at this point i am trying to find ways to get better...get better at photography, get better at being a wife, get better at being a person in general and really the only way that i think i can become better at these things is through experience. minutes turn into days, days to months, and months to years. i have owned my Nikon for three years now and i am finally finding the confidence to jump out into the world and shoot. all of this time, i have been worried about not being good enough when all along i wasn't putting in the time to become better. as the saying goes...'practice makes perfect' how cliche right? but it has been so true, even in the last week i have seen so much progress in my own work. i hope you think so too.

making tracks

as i begin my photography journey i can't help but ask myself 'what sets me apart from other photographers?' is it in my edits, angles, subjects? i don't think i know quite yet, but i am beginning to catch patterns in my approach. i favor dramatic perspectives and obviously black and white photography, though my interest in Lightroom may help with my color experimentation.
i am looking to leave my tracks not only in the photography scene, but in peoples' lives. i really don't mind if in twenty years they don't remember that i took their photos, but that every time they look at them, they are brought back to that experience. here are a few more photos from a senior session this week. i dig the drama in each photo and hope you enjoy them as well.

reactions

it's in the eyes right? in all great pictures with people as their subjects, the eyes will tell a story. a story about an emotion, an experience, or a reaction.
i had the privilege of photographing Addie Claire earlier in the week and these are just a few shots that i favored. i am in the process of researching new editing software and it is keeping me from posting many pictures. i just know they could look so much better, but for now, here are my first color photos for the blog. let me know what you think!

adventures

a special thanks to Chris Hsieh of La Brisa photography for giving me some amazing opportunities to shadow and shoot with him. these photos were taken at one of his family sessions earlier this week. this little boy was obviously adorable and i tried to capture his sense of adventure in these photos. awe, to be young again...
